Culture at Grant Thornton

8.9
8.9 rating for Culture, based on 38 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Great culture - can be a divide between the different levels (Managers, senior associates, associates) but generally good. Frequent formal and informal socialising events.

The workplace makes a conscious effort to ensure no one is being loaded up with more work then they can handle at any time. After hours they attempt to keep the team socialising as often as possible by sponsoring almost 2 social work events each month either in or out of the office.

The location I am at and my service line the partners are great and other higher level colleagues. They greet you and are there when you need assistance. There is a freedom to approach them if you need. The managers know what they are doing, each having their own styles on how to do work but they are willing to show you and are always willing to give a helping hand. I think the work culture is great at the moment I have no reservations about waking up and going to work - it has become routine.

Grant Thornton's culture is potentially their biggest strength. We can choose where we sit every day and employees of all levels sit next to each other. Besides, we have an extremely respectful environment which enables us to share our concerns and ask for help without feeling intimidated. Whenever we need help, we can freely ask anyone in our team and they always sit next to us and show step by step if needed. I am pleased with my teams and can say I feel inspired by my co-workers since they are intelligent people pushing their boundaries to learn and excel. We occasionally have team coffees/lunches. And every fortnight we have a team catch up. After hours is something I have not experienced so far at this point. But I do know when it is busy in the office, the partners and manager have to stay after hours. We are the only company to have 9-day fortnight, which gives people some extra time to recharge, even for those working part-time.

I think my team works well together. In terms of socialising amongst colleagues, it does not really happen unless its a more formal organised event.

Other associates are always ready to help, and understanding. Managers can be hard to reach / unavailable. Not much many interactions with Partners as an undergraduate - which is understandable. After hours - lots of events for EOFY and End of Year. Also a good social club, worth being a part of.

GT has a great culture, we have regular work drinks on fridays, and funded work events happen at least once a quarter. most of the office gets around the work events and they are always heaps of fun. In terms of in hours culture, the people at GT work extremely hard, and i am yet to have a bad experience. Even when you have to work late, it doesnt feel like its the worst thing ever because the people you are working with/for are great people.

Friendly but quiet in the office, everyone keeps to their own groups. There is a long chain of command, but everyone is clear about who they need to report to and what their responsibilities are in the team.

At our company, we have a clear hierarchy for structure, but everyone is approachable both during work and after hours. We emphasise teamwork and cooperation during the day, with colleagues collaborating closely. After work, we enjoy socializing together, whether it's informal hangouts or planned events.

I get along well with people from all levels of experience the everyone is genuinely interested in making me feel welcome. All the people I have worked with on an engagement have gone out of their way to help me understand and complete the work. The social aspect not only within my graduate group but my other work colleagues makes me look forward to coming to work.

In Office - friendly, helpful, and understanding After Hours - very sociable - always got an event planned. Structure exists but not as you'd think. The office has a hot desk system so you could be sitting next to a Partner, Senior Manager etc. It doesn't feel like anyone is 'above' anyone else as the Consulting team is very team orientated. When you're on projects with a Senior Manager/Manager and a Senior Associate/Associate, you're given an opportunity to have responsibility, which fast tracks your development. Socially, everyone is friends with everyone. This makes teamwork and communication much easier.

Personally, the company's culture is very positive. They frequently hold multiple events to commemorate every culture's unique events, e.g. Chinese new year. Peers in the company are very open to feedbacks and do not hesitate to provide useful advice to improve on work effectiveness. I am also a part of Social Club which happens monthly with various events. The most memorable one till date is the Wine Tasting Tour in Adelaide's famous Barossa Valley right before the busy season to boost the teams' morale. Everyone's encouraging and positive, helping each other with both personal and professional growth.

During busy season there is not much socialisation, however leading up to busy season we have a lunch and a few social activities. When in the office we don't have much socialisation. Managers sit on one side of the office and the seniors/ associates sit on the other side.

I believe our company, in particular my consulting team, have a great culture. As a medium sized company, we are able to get to know everyone in the team on a good level and everybody is super friendly. There is no definitive line between associates and higher management and all team members are willing to help each other out and provide helpful guidance and advice. Our company also make the effort to incorporate a number of different social events into our calendars which increases socialising opportunities and makes us all closer as a team.

Although positions differ, the team feels very equal and approachable.

Everyone is very friendly with each other and it does not feel like there is a hierarchy. We work with different people on different jobs which helps with socialising.
