Culture at EY Australia

8.2
8.2 rating for Culture, based on 30 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
I have found the culture to be supportive and cooperative. My seniors and managers accommodate my schedule, as long as I am productive and get the work done. I have gotten along with almost everyone I have come across so far, which has been enjoyable. When in-office, socialising amongst colleagues is commonplace. I think people are fundamentally supportive of each other because you have to be in order to succeed at the firm. If you are unpleasant to work with, you develop a name for yourself, and people will not want to work with you.

Company culture is very good, everyone is very accepting and willing to help and form relationships. Culture also allows for flexibility in times where life happens.

EY has a rank structure usually looking like this: consultant, senior consultant, manager, senior manager, director, and partner. Despite the chain of command which is in place, the culture of the office allows for easy communication across different rank levels. I have never felt intimidated or worried about talking to someone "higher ranked" than me, where I'm often able to sit near my managers/senior managers due to the office's hot desk system. You are able to have casual conversations and find 'informal mentors' through these conversations as well. After hours, you will often find that the firm accommodates for socializing through hosting events such as monthly drinks or other events which are organized on an ad hoc basis. Staff often organize informal socialising as well through going somewhere after work, getting lunch together, getting coffee, etc. Overall, from my experience, the culture is very friendly in consulting.

My experience has been very positive. The culture that I have experienced here at EY is one of openness, acceptance, hard work and excellence. It is as though no one, regardless of rank, has such an ego that you're not allowed to talk with them. Within my batch of graduates, there are opportunities to socialise outside of work hours. The culture is one of my highlights of working at EY.

All friendly people to work with - culture was better than what I initially expected prior to joining

Within the tax floor the culture is good I would say some teams more than others. There isn't a strong hierarchy but it is evident that grads and cons like to stick together, senior cons and managers together and so on.

Extreme inclusion and diverse workforce

The company's culture is extremely professional, with a strong focus on technical excellence. Cooperation and teamwork exists in engagement teams, however, is siloed in this manner. There is corporate culture present outside of work hours but it is not strong with events occurring sporadically throughout the year.

Inclusive and very rarely do you experience a hierarchy gap

Awesome culture. Lots of support through the buddy system and counsellors

There's a reason we are known as the people firm. People are really supportive to help you be successful. Success is measured by outcomes, not how many hours you are in the office. As somewhat expected, the hours are long, partly due to a number of initiatives outside of client work which is encouraged at all ranks. While there is defined ranks, your impact, independent of rank is what is measured, noticed and supported. We work in a highly collaborative manner, much more than other firms I have been at which are quite siloed. We are a huge organisation with lots of opportunities to connect with individuals from across the firm.

great team environment with everyone always lending a hand and good social aspects

Inclusive work culture, however even as a cadet overtime is expected. The team has flat structure, you work with everyone. Juniors do not really get the opportunity to interface with clients.

The culture is overall very good and supportive.

Team members are generally good, however leaders aren't inspirational and don't treat us well.

In one word, I would describe our culture as supportive. The buddy and counsellor system gives day-to-day and career support during your time at the firm and encourages each person to meet their career goals. Team members will consistently show up to develop the skills of others and provide constructive feedback. There is also a strong social culture where teams will enjoy dinners and social activities together out of hours.

The culture is very friendly across all levels of staff both in and out of the office. It is hard to get to know the other service lines however as they are on different floors.

Very welcoming, easy going and friendly. Can be surface level and only maintained by food/drinks rather than genuine friendships. Work becomes priority which can be hard for people to commit to catch ups. In terms of hierarchy, everyone is easy to interact with. Not intimidating for lower levels to speak to higher levels and be honest about questions/feedback.
