Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
It takes commitment and hard work to move up the ladder at the firm. This allows you to prove to your managers that you are good at what you do. It also requires you to be good with people - whether that means helping people out when they are stuck or working with clients to communicate your wants and needs effectively. So far, it would appear that progress in the firm is determined by merit.

Promotion only happens once a year it would be good if it was evaluated every 6 months as I think a lot can change in that period especially at a the lower levels in associate and senior levels.

As a global company, EY is full of opportunities to move to different teams, different locations, and move up to higher ranks based on your performance and market conditions. Promotions are discussed through setting expectations and letting your leadership know that you want to move to a newer rank. They are open to discuss this with you and will give you clear targets to reach.

I feel very positively about my prospects now that I'm at EY. There are many examples of individuals who started as graduates as I have, and have progressed to be very senior and successful. Similarly, it is known that a few years at EY and with your Chartered Accountancy under your belt, there are so much other employment available to you. In that sense, it is great! While I am here, there are small promotions every new financial year. The constant incremental growth is encouraging; I don't anticipate that I'll feel stuck/stagnant/held back.

You rarely do the same job twice, typically every year your responsibilities with a client would increase or you step up to review instead of prepare etc
Graduate, Perth - 16 Aug 2024
Multiple levels to climb

Midlevel, Perth - 12 Oct 2021
Varies based on rank and team and individuals demonstrated capabilities. But in general, junior ranks are promoted fairly rapidly.
Experienced, Sydney - 30 Sep 2021
promotions have been consistent with what was expected
Midlevel, Sydney - 28 Sep 2021
Unclear promotion after cadet program. Limited ability to transfer among teams. There is no channel to apply a different team after the cadet program, you have to apply like a regular university student for a grad/consultant role e.g. the 2 years working for EY does not provide with a leg up if you are reapplying. It seems inappropriate to have to retake the EY cognitive testing and "firm fit" test again.
Intern, Sydney - 28 Sep 2021
There is a clear framework for consultant to move up the ranks.

Dependent on relations more than abilities.
