We have a learning hub where mandatory and non-mandatory training is available, and access to pluralsight for skilling up.

This is probably where I have been particularly disappointed as a grad. Training varies a lot from team to team and I've had mixed experiences. Pluralsight has been rolled out which is great but for me personally it isn't effective due to a mix of how I naturally learn and where my skills currently sit. I think a stronger emphasis on training before taking on responsibility is warranted, like almost every employer.

There were graduate masterclasses but there's also programs outside of the grad program available to the whole business, like women in tech and guilds. These provide networking and learning opportunities. A major benefit of coles is the innovation program. Its a great opportunity to work with fellow graduates and engage people around the business. And there's presentation skill workshops which are so important for public speaking.

When I was in my tax rotation, coles made sure I had the skills necessary to do my job. This included paying for a training session that cost more than $1000. As a finance grad, it is also a requirement that we attain our ca or cpa accreditation. This is also paid for by coles. Coles also has the cfo academy that assists employees to improve their skillset.

On the job training is where most training will come from. There are company-wide modules/training that is mandatory relating to processes and behavior. As a finance graduate, completion of cpa or ca is required.

The formal training from coles was detailed and kept me well informed, in particular how to navigate the new corporate environment. There was also numerous graduate training workshops held to develop soft skills. However, as the engineering and manufacturing graduate program is the first of its kind, the formal training in that field is not as developed compared to other functions, thus I have to take more responsibility for my career development. Despite this, coles has provided great support in ensuring the opportunities I ask for are available to me.

On the job training good, graduate specific masterclasses were a bit wishy washy and not the most helpful personally

Semi regular online sessions. Generally are not relevant to the areas of the company I work in.
Graduate, Melbourne - 10 Sep 2024
There are a lot of masterclass sessions and formal training where I've learned good skills like personal branding and commercial skills. Mostly you learn on the job by shadowing your team or getting feedback from your manager on projects. I've learned how to manage projects, create decks for presenting and use data and research to create solutions.
