What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
I am aware that friends at other firms are being paid more. It is a little annoying as I feel like Allens rides on the fact that it is top tier and will attract talent, and does not pay for it.

Overall very happy. We aren't eligible for bonuses for a few years. This is why I am not giving a ten. I have always worked in environments which had performance incentives so personally I dislike that my remuneration is not linked to my performance. But the rem package is still overall very good considering I was a university student less than six months ago.

Allens does not pay competitively when compared to other top tier firms
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Aug 2024
Pay is good, it's in the middle for top tiers. I think the bonus structure not applying until you are an associate is a bit unfair - particularly as once you are off the LSA, many grads start pulling hefty hours from time to time and won't see any recognition for it. I think Allens should allow grads to be eligible for bonus at least once they start their second rotation.

I think employees should be eligible for bonuses earlier in their career. I also think there should be more leeway provided for discretionary bonuses, as half the bonus is tied to a calculation of your billables. Some people might not have the billables for the full bonus, but the value they provide otherwise might be worth rewarding.

I'm very happy with my pay. I don't know about bonuses yet.
Graduate, Perth - 06 Aug 2024
I think we get paid well, it is in-line with market rates, and we have received pay rises every year.
Graduate, Perth - 20 Oct 2023
Pay is pretty solid, particularly at my level. I'm happy for now, but it tapers off at the rungs above.
Graduate, Melbourne - 20 Oct 2023
Hard to say as a graduate. I think for the hours we do, the pay isn't great but like others who work here, I'd rather be paid less and work with great people than the other way around
Graduate, Sydney - 20 Oct 2023
It's towards the very top end of the market
Graduate, Sydney - 19 Oct 2023
There are no bonuses paid until Associate level.
Graduate, Sydney - 19 Oct 2023
Bonuses irrelevant at stage. Pay is slightly below other competitors in top tier law firms. Could be $5-10k higher to match.
Graduate, Melbourne - 17 Oct 2023
We are paid at the lower end of top tiers.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Oct 2023
I don't think I'm paid top-of-the-market, but I'm satisfied with my pay.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Oct 2023
Satisfied. Don't yet qualify for bonuses until Associate.
Graduate, Sydney - 10 Oct 2023
The pay is reasonable compared to the market standard. With the amount of overtime that realistically occurs, it could be higher to compensate for the amount of work actually undertaken on average.

Good

What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
Parental leave. 26 weeks paid leave regardless of gender and taken within 2 years of the birth of the child. Strongly supported by management and colleagues (with particular emphasis on encouraging men to take it, which I think is important). As someone whose primary life goal is ensuring I can balance a rich family life and a rewarding career, these types of policies are the precise things which allow that to happen. We also have so much free or discounted stuff I can't even summarise it.
Graduate, Melbourne - 13 Aug 2024
Allens pays for PLT through UNSW which is about $12K. Otherwise nothing special perk wise.
Graduate, Melbourne - 08 Aug 2024
The best perks are the Sports Committee and the Social Committee, and the work they do for the firm.
Graduate, Brisbane - 07 Aug 2024
Free dinner and ubers after a set time, extensive discount codes to many retailers.
Graduate, Brisbane - 07 Aug 2024
I think the sports and wellness perks are very good here, as well as our social events. A lot of sponsoring of sporting events and gym memberships. Also, there are snacks and fruits provided multiple times a day.
Graduate, Brisbane - 06 Aug 2024
We get discounts on a lot of different stores through Allens Advantage and I have already used that program to buy things for outside of work (eg, clothes, homewares).
Graduate, Perth - 06 Aug 2024
Perks are excellent. Free gym, dinners, Ubers etc. Generous private health etc. Leave policy is ok, could be better (we don't get many days leave and are forced to take a week at Christmas).
Graduate, Melbourne - 20 Oct 2023
Free lunch everyday, so many social activities, free barista made coffee every day, free gym memberships, discounted health care
Graduate, Perth - 20 Oct 2023
Dinners made by the firm's chefs
Graduate, Sydney - 20 Oct 2023
Lots of committees for people of diverse backgrounds and interests that are all highly active.
Graduate, Brisbane - 20 Oct 2023
Free dinner after hours and taxi home.
Graduate, Sydney - 19 Oct 2023
Religious and cultural leave, ability to swap out public holidays for another day of leave that suits you better
Graduate, Sydney - 19 Oct 2023
Not relevant to me at this stage but parental leave policies seem pretty good. Regular perks also available: free taxis and meals for working late.
Graduate, Melbourne - 17 Oct 2023
Free gym membership and exercise classes.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Oct 2023
Dinners cooked by the firm's in-house kitchen are available after 7:30pm; free Ubers home after 8pm. I've also gotten free tickets to the theatre and the AFL.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Oct 2023
Ubers, late night dinners etc.
Graduate, Sydney - 10 Oct 2023
We have the standard perks like free dinners after 7:30pm, and free Ubers after 8pm. The leave policy is fairly standard at 4 weeks of annual leave a year. The best perks at the firm are the sports offerings: e.g. free Studio Pilates passes, free tennis court hire, free registration for marathons / other races, free gym membership.
