Training & Personal Development at AECOM

7.2
7.2 rating for Training, based on 170 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Easy system for completing training, plenty of reminders for upcoming training, and plenty of options to explore yourself.

Training sessions have been generally informative and a good opportunity to meet grads across the business - sometimes the professional speakers brought in are out of touch with the realities of being an early professional in a large corporate business but still provide great insight into their career paths with the company. On the job learning has provided the greatest experience: project diversity, being on site, working with other disciplines, liaising with subbies, meetings with clients etc

It's a bit luck of the draw, some project managers are better at explaining and teaching than others but making sure you are working with a range of people will with informal training. Formal training is provided if it is a requirement of project work but other opportunities are available via discussion with managers.

A lot of the training is on the job or informal training. There are some formal training opportunities where you are able to further develop your technical skills.
Graduate, Melbourne - 20 Aug 2024
There were a lot of teams meetings teaching new graduates how to utilize inhouse systems / processes regarding things such as time cards, or lodging IT issues. Since starting the graduate program, a lot of my learning has been technical / software based, and has been from colleagues on the job. I have learned how to utilize BIM programs such as REVIT, and Microstation

As a graduate I think AECOM does a good job of informing you on the whole company over the two years. Within U+P the informal training is non existent.
Graduate, Sydney - 20 Aug 2024
Informal training has been good (Learning by doing with support from colleagues) I haven't received much formal training outside of the grad program which focused mostly on company ethos rather than skill development.
Graduate, Melbourne - 19 Aug 2024
Graduate program (GPS) is too general and does not provide a specific program of development run by mentors but instead a HR team that sets up meetings once a month and a conference every year. Informal mentoring from team has been great with excellent technical knowledge and understanding.
Graduate, Rockhampton - 15 Aug 2024
Training has been provided for most things but some things I haven't got much training and/or the training given have been too late and my work on a project has been delayed.
Graduate, Melbourne - 14 Aug 2024
Aecom provides numerous training sessions however a lot of these are more on an administrative level rather than technical. There are plenty of opportunities to attend lunch and learns for example.
Graduate, Brisbane - 12 Aug 2024
Very difficult to get training if it is not a video available on AECOM Uni. Most people are busy with their own work, and don't have time to walk you through things. I spent 3 or more months waiting to get trained on basic scientific software, which meant I missed out on opportunities for work due to not having experience.
Graduate, Newcastle - 05 Aug 2024
Broad coverage of training opportunities available, from system training to technical sharing.
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Aug 2024
Training with tasks on the job is well guided but this will vary from manager to manager. The more formal training in terms of the graduate program is engaging and informative.
Graduate, Brisbane - 01 Aug 2024
Informal training is great however formal training would need a bit more detail.
Graduate, Melbourne - 31 Jul 2024
Informal training was just watching videos
Graduate, Melbourne - 31 Jul 2024
The formal training was very vague and did not teach you aecom specific things, e.g. how to fill in your timesheet, how to do an expense report, how the filing system is organised etc. Informal training is good, it just replies on people to have a lot of free time to teach you things, and with billability pressures, you can feel guilty asking for help or they can not afford to help you.
Graduate, Perth - 30 Jul 2024
Basic on-boarding training and if any additional training is required. The company will send you to external training facilities.
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Jul 2024
Online training provided on a regular basis. Graduate program is well developed and implemented.
Graduate, Cairns - 30 Jul 2024
Starting my career with the company as a graduate has been an ideal way to gradually build experience and acclimate to the company culture. The graduate program has been excellent, offering various training and learning sessions, along with a clear schedule outlining the graduate pathway. Additionally, the company offers diverse training and development opportunities for all employees, often regardless of their business line or level, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Jul 2024
On the job learning is the only way one learns, be that soft skills or technical abilities. Company provided learning and training is something that could be summarized in a PPT but split into hours and days worth of learning.
