Culture at AECOM

8.2
8.2 rating for Culture, based on 170 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Recently the culture has seemed to fade a bit (fewer people in the office, not as many social interactions after work, etc.). Structure and Hierarchy are good, cooperation and teamwork has been satisfactory as well.

Immediate team: quite top heavy (lots of seniors) which can cause a bit of angst amongst the younger staff with workload, fairly social and work well as a team. A few social events throughout the year organised outside of work (either work related rolling into a dinner/drinks or not work related and purely social.) We have a birthday cake roster, people often bake once a week/fortnight and bring in to share. In office attendance generally isn't great - mostly the same people coming in regularly and many coming in 1-2 times a fortnight Broader B+P: culture/morale/motivation is on the up - a change in structure has seen a shift in general team morale and approach to work, again fairly social (could be a bit more to ensure all teams are acquainted with each other), generally good atmosphere, a bit quiet in the office lately

Hierarchy exists on paper but it doesn't feel like it in the office. I feel completely comfortable walking up to anyone to ask a question or go and get a coffee and the senior team have worked to maintain this culture. Early professionals are friendly in the office and outside of it. There is usually some sort of social event every fortnight or so and a good balance of work-friends and life-friends

AECOM has a great culture and work environment. I feel very supported by my manager and colleagues and get along well with everyone in my team. The management team are also very approachable.

The work culture within the office in my team is excellent, there is always a positive energy in the office. There are social groups for connecting with other graduates, and these groups often put on events outside of work hours.

Particularly within U+P Sydney there is quite a disparity in terms of hierarchy, structure and social aspect. The technical abilities of the team is either a principal and above, or a professional and below. This has often lead to senior staff members being dragged into too much and having no time and on the other hand the junior staff having to step up into roles that seniors would usually do. This has left the junior staff sincerely believing they should be compensated accordingly for stepping up and probably the same motive for the more senior staff.

The company culture is supportive and accommodating and socializing is professional and considerate. Teams are mostly diverse, cooperative and supportive with a shared goal to produce quality work.

Have couple activity every month, end of month drinking, dfferent culture activities.

The office is becoming more and more derelict as people work flexible hours mostly from home. Good teamwork amongst the team with a few small gatherings outside of the office. Hierarchy is mostly flat with everyone in the office being approachable. Another perk of being in a small regional office (approx 25 office staff).

I find Aecom very inclusive and flexible. The teamwork and collaboration works well. There are many opportunities for socializing.

During work hours the culture is good, people from different teams interact, either for work purposes or just to catch up over common interests. Socialising is more popular among certain business lines, but they often extend their invitation to other teams, although they don't always accept.

Good culture, where we socialise during breaks. It is a flat hierarchy.
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Aug 2024
During work hours the team's structure is supportive and a collaborative effort. This leads well into fostering relationships outside of work hours with work organised activities both in and out of the office including the fortnightly office drinks.

The culture is hardworking but also relaxed and focused around making work enjoyable.

Company seems to be refusing to hire a specific role that each other department has

People are generally nice. There is a culture of work, working overtime and extra. People socialise outside of work, go for drinks etc and this makes it easier to mingle with people at a higher level than you, which in turn makes for a more comfortable work environment

Culture is the best thing at AECOM. The culture makes you want to stay. There is an importance and a sense of nurture which is given to grads and it makes it feel welcoming and warm. Most managers and understanding of what it is like to be a grad and will hold your hand through the process. However, team-members in between you and your manager can either be great or meh, it just depends on the person as the company has no control over this.

Social club gatherings and occasional morning teas
Graduate, Cairns - 30 Jul 2024
Each team member has a defined role and level, but the workplace environment is not overly strict or hierarchical. Some senior team members have been welcoming and supportive, offering guidance and assistance. Teamwork is excellent, with strong communication and collaboration to help each other with tasks. The company has a committee dedicated to organizing social and wellbeing activities, both inside and outside the office.

The culture within the team is great. There are usually supportive, accommodating, and team oriented. They help focus on yourself. Outside office hours, there are many social events, especially for young professionals. However, it is very white/Australian local dominated and is generally hard for people of color to feel welcome.
